When the CEO and highly motivated board chairman of The Children’s Village joined together to address systematic issues surrounding the provision of follow-up care to teens leaving residential treatment, they were able to implement a new initiative that was planned, executed, and funded in only 90 days. The presenters will share how they created Community of Care, a program to provide supportive services to each child and their family for one year after leaving residential treatment.

When anything goes awry, nonprofit leaders may find that their energy and resources can quickly become drained in the process of responding. Understanding the dimensions and elements of risk in all areas of organizational operations is the first step in designing a comprehensive risk management program. This workshop will provide a framework for identifying risk factors in nonprofits by not only describing generic risks, but also presenting approaches to defining those risks that may be unique to individual organizations.

The HIRE Minnesota campaign, which aims to ensure that federal stimulus and other public investments benefit Minnesota’s most vulnerable families and children, will be used as a case study to inform workshop participants about how they can use innovative public policy and civic engagement tools and strategies to leverage equitable public investments that directly benefit the families and communities they serve. This workshop is a response to shortcomings of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
